Oil Refining Project
As a method to implement the career exploration project within Chemistry 30 curriculum I had students complete a project. This project was three fold. The first was to explain current techniques in oil refining as well as the types of products are produced from cracking, reforming and fractionation. The second was to describe how products produced from these methods as used in certain careers. It was their job to explore a career I had given them or a career they ma have chosen. In doing so students would have to visualize the daily lives of their career and the products that would be used within them. With this visualization students would be able to start to see their possible futures. Last, as a method to present their project students had to integrate a form of technology. This could be in the form of a powerpoint, prezi or a video. All in all, this was a project of great success students learnt a lot about the processes involved in oil refining as well as the exploration of a career.

Example of Project the Oil Refining Project
The following is a video from two of my students discussing oil refining and its connection to their possible career. What amazed me about this video was their enthusiasm and the analogies they used to explain some of the concepts (see 4:14 and 7.45). In addition, I was pleased to see that two of my students recruited another student who was not in chemistry 30.
